GenCon 50

Wee hours of the morning and I find myself still trying to finish packing for one of the biggest gaming events of the year (I know our traveling companions are still packing too). We leave Friday, but that does not mean that my brain is not going into overdrive trying to make sure that every necessary costume piece is packed. I start thinking to myself..."I could do this for a living. Traveling somewhere different all the time, cosplaying someone who isn't me." My dogs pace around my feet, whining and sniffing my suitcase. Gencon 50 is going to be the biggest it has ever been. They have had nearly all badges sell out (100,000+). I can not even imagine being stuck close quarters with that many people at once. FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS HOLY, SHOWER! Do not be the typical "nerd" stigma. We are a proud community and we have built up this grand thing. Every person is there to have fun to their own level of satisfaction and it is such a wonderful thing to see e...

Best Geeky Dad I Can Be

As a kid I always wondered what I would be like as a parent. I always wanted to be the cool dad, the one who's kid got upset because their friends always wanted to hang at their house. The dad who watched the same shows as them, and listened to their music, and new all the cool things. Then as I got older and realized I was never cool to begin with, I decided to change my approach to it. What is the point of being the cool dad anyways? Most the kids with cool dads hated their dads and would rather be at anyone else's house. That's not even close to what I want with my kids so I had to rethink the whole thing. Now that I have children, I can see where it would be really easy to just give in and be the cool dad. Life would be so much easier if I was just their friend rather than their parent. However, I want me children to grow up with a health sense of right and wrong, and in my opinion you can't do that by being their best friend. Best friend dad doesn't come they ...

Game Of Thrones S7E1........ Contains Spoilers

This post will contain spoilers.............. If you have not seen the episode yet................. STOP READING NOW................... ............. ..... ........ .......... .... ....... .... .......... ..... ......... Are we good? Everyone here are all people who have seen the episode already? Awesome, if you haven't then that's completely on you now. So, Season 7 premier, I LOVED it so much. It was a bit slower but it did a great job at setting up the season for what is to come. So lets break it down on here and talk about what we saw. First, the first scene with Aria killing all of the main Fray men........................ AMAZING. That girl has gone from being an upstart tom boy to a bad ass assassin and I that is incredible. She is finally ticking off the people on her list, and honestly I hope she gets to all of them, yes even the hound. Personally, I want them to meet up, have him help her kill the rest of her...

Oh no, The Doctor is a woman, everyone run and hide........

I am so annoyed with all the cry baby men who say they are going to boycott Doctor Who because the 13th Doctor is a woman. Woopty Fricken Doo it's being played by a woman, it's only been played by men for the last 50+ years, 13 of them in fact (war doctor was a regeneration even if not counted in number of doctors). So why is it such a bad thing that a woman is playing the character? Not just that, but a talented actress to boot. It's a bad thing because men can't handle the thought that women could ever be as good as them. It is a bad thing because everything that goes against the misogynistic status quo is just people giving in to "politically correct snowflakes". You know what I say to them? Screw you and your fragile ego. YOU ARE THE SNOWFLAKE!!!!!!! Is your male ego really that fragile that a woman doing something men usually do is the worst thing ever? Is your entire life built on the idea that if a woman takes the lead in a show you like that it MUST b...

John Wick is amazing and here's why.......

By a raise of hands, how many of you have seen the first John Wick movie? A bunch of you, good. Now, raising your other hand, how many of you have seen John Wick Chapter 2? Not as many but still a bunch, if you can read this and haven't dropped your phone, go ahead and put your hands down now. Thanks for participating. For those who didn't raise their hands, I am going to be talking about the movies, and try not to spoil anything, but just beware that reading this may lesson some of the joy of watching the movie for the first time with only knowing a little bit about it. I'll wait while you decide how much you want to know…………… …………………………………………………. ……………………………………………. ……………………………………… ………………………………. ……………………….. ………………….. …………… …….. … Okay, is it safe to talk? Those movies are amazing on so many levels for so many reasons. Not even sure where to begin. Actually, no, that's a lie. I will begin with my favorite thing abo...

Voltron's glorious return

Alright so I just HAVE to talk about the Netflix version of Voltron, it is incredible!!! I am always a little leery with animated shows and getting too into them. Too many of them have great stories but handle the characters in extremely childish ways. That or they try too hard to be anime and such all the joy out of the show. Voltron did neither of those things in either of the seasons. There was plenty of humor, plenty of childish moments, plenty of serious moments, and LOTS of great action. The villain is the right amount of genius, evil, and obsessive. His generals are intelligent but over confident so they put up great fights before being defeated. The worlds they go to are wonderfully drawn and laid out. The different alien races are fantastic without being too “cartoonish” or weird. The lions might be my favorite part though. They have decided in this show that science and magic can not only coexist, but work together. They bring this about by make the lions living m...

Star Wars in 10 words

Wish we had more readers for this blog, so I could actually get people’s opinions on this. If you were to explain Star Wars to someone who has never seen them, and you have to do it with only 10 words, what would you say? Mine would be: One powerful family fights, pulls entire galaxy in with them   What’s yours?

I blame Roddenberry

So I am trying to stay away from politics on this page, I just have one comment to say:   Damn you Gene Roddenberry.   Yeah that’s right, I said it, and in a political post. I am referring to the fact that watching shows of his creation gave me a bright look at the future for our planet. However watching the way this country is going, let alone this world, I don’t see Roddenberry’s visions coming true with my life time. Not even first contact, because if there is intelligent life out there that surpasses our own, they are going to avoid us or enslave us. So I blame the ghost of Gene Roddenberry for giving me such extreme anxiety as I watch our world burn around me. Think I need more bloodwine to get through this……………………..

Yes I like this movie

So I have a confession to make. I watched the movie Disney’s Descendants with my children, and I actually enjoyed myself. Yes, that’s right; a 34 year old man watched a Disney teen movie and enjoyed it. 1)       Kristin Chenoweth is a FANTASTIC actress and singer. She play Maleficent and does such a great job at it, plus her singing voice is on point. 2)       The rest the villains do a pretty good job at playing their roles well. I don’t know if they would play their original selves well, but playing their run down imprisoned selves they do awesome. 3)       The children of the villains all pull off their roles flawlessly. 4)       The children of the famous Disney heroes play their roles on point as well. 5)       The amount of “cameo” type appearances and references in this movie are fantastic. 6)       The music i...
