So lately I've been really into audiobooks, they pass the time well, keep my mind occupied, and allow me to multitask while I do them. So I joined Audible.com and wasnt sure exactly what series I really wanted to go through. I had gotten a free credit and had heard really good things about the a book called Ready Player One. It was an author I had never heard of, but it came with rave reviews and was narrated by Will Wheaton, so hey, how could I say no? I was hooked right from the begginning. The premise of the book isnt that far fetched, its 30 years or so in the future, the world is ravaged and falling apart, and the most of the population spends the majority of their time in The Oasis, a virtual reality world that is more powerful than any world government. So my son has a new favorite show, to the point that I scored huge points when I not only was willing to watch it with him, but got him some of the figures for his birthday. His new favorite show is Rescue Bots, and at first glance it is nothing more than another attempt to ruin a series from my childhood by trying to make it for todays children. On a second glance however the premise is pretty good, and the humor, learning, and plot in general goes beyond your normal kids shows. They took the basic Transformers idea, added in cameos from Optimus Prime and Bumblebee, and added in futuristic technology and a great voice cast. Come on, they have Lavar Burton, Tim Currey, Mark Hammil, Lacy Chabert all on there, you can't get much better than that, plus Optimus Prime is voiced by Peter Cullen, you know, the original voice of Optimus Prime. Decided to watch World War Z Unrated on Netflix last night and thought I might do a bit of a review about it on here. Hmmm, where to begin.... well, first off, for everyone who is upset that it didn't follow the book all to well, you're right, it doesn't. That book has a great story, but would be rather hard to turn into a two hour movie. The basic story concept however was fantastic and the perfect way to go about telling the origin story of a zombie type apocalypse. As with most movies of the genre, it started with a calm family, on a calm day, just like any other day. Mom and Dad and kids are happy and content and the news plays in the background giving you subtle hints that shit is about to go down. Of course no one in the house is paying attention to the news however so they go about their day as if nothing is wrong. For me that is the perfect way to start any apocalyptic movie.
