How about a movie review for World War Z Unrated??

Decided to watch World War Z Unrated on Netflix last night and thought I might do a bit of a review about it on here.
Hmmm, where to begin.... well, first off, for everyone who is upset that it didn't follow the book all to well, you're right, it doesn't. That book has a great story, but would be rather hard to turn into a two hour movie. The basic story concept however was fantastic and the perfect way to go about telling the origin story of a zombie type apocalypse.
As with most movies of the genre, it started with a calm family, on a calm day, just like any other day. Mom and Dad and kids are happy and content and the news plays in the background giving you subtle hints that shit is about to go down. Of course no one in the house is paying attention to the news however so they go about their day as if nothing is wrong.
For me that is the perfect way to start any apocalyptic movie. If you start the movie already mid chaos its hard to get attached to the characters because you aren't sure whats all going on. Now yes, the peaceful start is formulaic but if you don't start with peace, its hard to feel sorry for the main characters when the world goes to hell soon.
One part that I think was overlooked was that they didn't give you much explanation as to Brad Pitts character before they have him start doing his ability to investigate. I mean, they did a good job of working the child's subway toy in as a way for him to figure out how long it takes people to make the change. That was a good piece of film work and helping the audience realize just how quickly it happens, and how creepy it is.
The action the happens during this and following similar scenes was done quite well in my opinion. The reason it didn't do very well in theaters, in my personal opinion, was that this is a mystery survival movie, not a horror apocalytic movie. If you look at it as a mystery thriller survival movie, then all the peices fit together quite nicely. They give you all the neccesary clues, but dont bring them up till later, like a regular mystery type movie. If you watch the movie from that aspect it goes from a 2 out of 5 star movie, to a 4 out of 5 star movie. You cant compare this movie to any other zombie movie, it doesnt work the same way.
All of that to say I enjoyed the movie for what it was, not a zombie gore movie, but an mystery action movie.
If you watch it, don't bother unless its unrated though, much better version. Also, watching this while intoxicated makes the jumps that much better, but that could just be the Bloodwine talking.
